5 Things I Would Tell A Student Looking Into SUNY Oswego

So you’re looking into SUNY Oswego, huh? Here are a couple of tips and tricks i learned in my first two Semesters at SUNY Oswego.

  1. Bring all your snow Gear.

Now I know what you’re thinking “Why would I need my winter gear in the middle of august?” and usually you’d be right, but this is Oswego. As soon as September hits, the temperature drops roughly 15 degrees and you’ll want your jacket and gloves and hats and ski pants (learned that one the hard way).

2. Be careful by the lake.

The lake is by far my favorite spot on campus. Being able to sit by the water and listen to the waves and relax is key part of my days in the summer, especially in between classes. I have however witnessed on multiple occasions seen people slip, loose their balance, or in any way fall and bite it hard on the rocks. Just be careful, watch where you’re going, and pay attention to whats around you and you’ll be able to enjoy the beach as much as I do.

3. Give yourself plenty of time to get to class.

This one is pretty self-explanatory. While our campus certainly isn’t massive, it is decently big, which means you have got to give yourself plenty of time to get to class.

4. Go out and have fun

Another one thats pretty Self-explanatory. Go out! Enjoy yourself! Life’s too short to only focus on school or on one thing for the entire time. I know its cliche but these really are going to be the best times of your life. don’t squander it by not enjoying yourself, in whatever capacity that is.

5. Take your classes seriously .

I know, it sounds stupid, but take your classes seriously. It’s very hard to catch up once you fall behind and professors sometimes won’t make it any easier on you either. So just get your work done. I know its not the most glamours thing in the world, but you pay to be here! Why not make the most out of it?
